A Bit About Us
Behind the Scenes
Latino Strings is an emerging musical ensemble directed by Celina Reyes, a classically trained viola player from Argentina.
The group's name plays on the dual meaning of "strings," referring to both the musical instrument and the ties that bind us to our cultural roots. Celina selects traditional Latin American music and arranges it for a combination of string ensemble from a collective of fantastic musicians: Kali Halapua, Peau Halapua, Miriam Hartmann, Martin Roberts and Joella Pinto tailoring the genre and culture of each piece.
Celina has established strong connections between classical and Latin American music in New Zealand, where she has performed as lead viola for the Manukau Symphony Orchestra, conducted the Latin American Choir of New Zealand (CLANZ), played regularly with "Bach Musica" and "Pipers Sinfonia," and been a member of a Tango quartet. Her experience as a teacher is also evident in every performance by Latino Strings, where audiences leave with both an appreciation of the music and a deeper understanding of its cultural significance.
Celinas' signature project is supported by her background as a project manager, ensuring that the group's artistic vision is executed with the precision and attention to detail of a trusted small business. Whether entertaining or motivating audiences of all sorts, Latino Strings promises an experience that is both culturally enriching and musically inspiring.
